Peter Liu is twelve years old and in sixth grade. He started playing piano at a local music school at age six, and became Mrs. Felicia Zhang’s student in September, 2015 at the age of nine.
Peter had a rough start during his very early years, as he contracted neonatal meningitis when he was weeks weeks old. It is a detrimental sometimes fatal bacterial infection which poses a significant risk of moderate to severe disability including hearing, vision, motor function and cognitive impairment. Peter had delayed development and was less independent than most children his age. Fortunately, Peter overcame his obstacles and found piano playing as one of his passions.
Besides piano playing, Peter has a junior black belt in karate and is an active chess player. Peter helped his school team to win second place in chess nationals two years in a row, and to win fourth place at chess Supernationals last year. Peter was featured for his piano playing in Greenwich Time newspaper (January, 2017) and in the ‘Kid Spotlight’ section of the Scholastic News. (March, 2017)
